Lincolnshire 2012 Action Plan- Supporting & Preparing for the benefits of London 2012 is available to download now. Please note this is a working document. Click here

2012 Cultural Events

The Lincolnshire 2012 coordination project is looking to compile an ongoing list of cultural and sporting events which can help us celebrate the Olympic Games coming to London in 2012. If you are aware of an event that you think should be closely linked please contact lincolnshire2012@e-lindsey.gov.uk before the end of November 2008.

Volunteering and Skills

If you are interested in volunteering for 2012 register online at www.london2012.com

In addition a skills development programme is currently being prepared to cover a range of topics that should help to support people wishing to volunteer at the games, but who also want to gain local experience, join in with local events and potentially gain skills that may help them with applying for jobs.

Business opportunities

Although 2012 may seem a long way off and you may not have thought about how your company can benefit from the Games, now is the time to register your company details to be a supplier.

Building work has begun on the Olympic Village which will accommodate athletes and officials, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s not too late to procure a contract for your services. Just think…3 million cubic metres of soil needed; 9,000 new homes to be built; 30,000 beds to be purchased; 11,500 shuttle cocks will be bought; 100 tonnes of meat and 350 tonnes of vegetables will be eaten…….

Further progress.....

Health & Physical Activity

A new competitive programme entitled Lincolnshire Community Games has been developed, which hopes to provide a year round locally accessible competition format that can help bring communities together. Download a copy of the proposal

In addition Investment in Physical Activity by Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) has been given a boost by the appointment of a new coordinator for the county and significant funding has been set aside by Lincolnshire PCT to help us all get more active in the run up to 2012. This work is part of a wider project to address Lincolnshire’s high obesity and inactivity levels.

Support for Elite performance

The Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme (LEAP) was launched in May 2008 and the supporters club has 6 initial funders, these include; Lincoln Golf Centre, Lincolnshire Playing Fields Association, & the Butterfly Poultry.
Currently nominations for athletes are being sought from National Governing Bodies of sport and the first Leap athletes will be announced by September 2008.
