Sport Unlimited funding (previously referred to as Extended Activities) Part of the ‘5 hour offer’

You may remember from July 2007 when Gordon Brown, then the Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced an additional £100 million investment into Sport for Young People. This investment is to create the ‘5 hour offer’ for young people. The offer is made up of 2 hours high quality curriculum PE and an addition 3 hours of sport beyond the curriculum delivered by a wide range of partners.

Lincolnshire Sports Partnership has the responsibility to lead and drive the delivery of the programme. The Sport Unlimited programme will bring new funding to support existing and develop new programmes for young people in Lincolnshire.

To access this funding, we need to work with you to develop and produce a delivery plan that represents all of our partners. One of the important benefits of this programme is that it will enable us to work together to create one holistic plan covering all different sporting activities and funding streams that currently exist for Children and Young People in Lincolnshire.

The Sport Unlimited programme will provide a range of attractive and sustainable opportunities in sporting activities for young people from the ‘semi sporty’ population. This ‘semi sporty’ young person is not on any gifted and talented programme and if competing, is taking part in the B or C schools team.

The Sport unlimited programme will support you in the implementation of your development plan targeting young people working at local level in partnership with other agencies such as Local Authorities, School Sport Partnerships, National Governing Bodies or other local delivery organisations.

Sport England will invest funding via the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and on to the local delivery partners.

The Sport Unlimited Programme will focus on

  • Young people between the ages of 11 to 19 in full time education
  • Young people from the 50% ‘semi sporty’ band, already engaged in 2-3 hours of sporting activity per week
  • Extra-curricular activities delivered during the school year within both schools and community settings. This excludes the summer holidays and lunch time/break time provision
  • Activities that have been identified through consultation with young people
