Courses and Qualifications

Courses and qualifications are important for coaches in sport.

There are a number of courses and qualifications that coaches should attend. These are classed as the Minimum Standards for Deployment, and are either sports-specific courses such as Level 1 badminton or generic such as First Aid for Sport and Leisure.

Sports-specific courses

National Governing Bodies organise a programme of UKCC courses, ranging from Level 1 (assistant coach) to Level 5 (master coach).

Almost all National Governing Bodies coaching qualifications are based around the UK Coaching Certificate. The UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) is a national initiative to endorse coach education programmes, across sports throughout the UK, against agreed criteria including:

For sports clubs, the UKCC will mean that the coaches you bring into your club, or the members whom you train as coaches, will have been trained to a recognised standard of competency.

For parents, this also means that whoever is coaching their children will have been properly prepared to provide appropriate coaching.

Many of these courses can be seen on our website, but if you know which sport or course you’d like to attend, the relevant National Governing Body site may also help.

Generic courses

Lincolnshire Sports Partnership offers a range of generic education courses. These include:

These generic courses are available across the county, throughout the year.

Additional courses can be organised for clubs if there is demand.

N.B. Members of theĀ Lincolnshire Coaches Network access the generic courses organised by Lincolnshire Sports Partnership at a reduced rate.
