All athletes on the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme (LEAP) are invited to a number of courses and events throughout the year.
Although as a LEAP Athlete, you are supported by funding from the programme, LEAP is also about the support and guidance Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and it’s partners can offer athletes, as well as funding. This includes am Induction Evening for athletes and their parents to find out more about LEAP, a Performance Camp with Olympic Medalist and Cyclist Bryan Steel, Media Training at the University of Lincoln and a Presentation Evening to officially welcome athletes onto the programme.
1. Induction Evening
The Induction Evening, which takes place in January, will provide athletes, parents and coaches with an introduction to the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme; what is expected of the athletes over the next 12 months, what LEAP can offer them, and what the next stages of the programme are.
Each athlete will receive an Induction Pack containing information about the programme and key contacts at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership.
2. Performance Camp
The Performance Camp, which happens in February, looks at supporting you to become a better athlete, as well as finding the right balance between sport, education and your personal life.
The basis of the programme is to help athletes set a balance between training, education and their social life, which will enable them to progress to their highest potential without failing or losing the love for the sport. During the day you will plan some realistic goals for all aspects of your life and set a training plan to make sure all three areas are being looked after.
3. Presentation Evening
The LEAP Presentation Evening in February officially welcomes all athletes on to the programme. At the presentation evening, athletes will receive their certificate and be awarded their level, they will receive their amount of funding, and collect vouchers which entitles them to attend LSP-run courses, specifically for LEAP athletes.
Members of the LEAP Supporters Club will be present at the presentation evening, and a guest athlete will make a special appearance to inspire the athletes in their career.
4. Media Course
The Media Course, delivered by journalist John Cafferkey at the University of Lincoln, provides our LEAP athletes with basic media training. Athletes will learn how to write a blog and update their supporters on their achievements. They will also be interviewed by each other and learn the basics of radio and television interviews.
